I was a recipient of a college scholarship... in elementary school. So let's just say, for the record, that I was destined to go to college, anyway.
I was groomed, taken to afterschool programs and the like.
I was taught everything from "how to conduct yourself in formal settings" to "how to interview for a job."
By the time I was 16, I had already been working 2 years in a white-collar job.
By 18, I felt "more than ready" to go to school.
(This is where the craptastic part comes in.)
All in a couple of years, I found out that:
- I might be gay (after 7 years of dating an opposite-sex person).
- I have deep emotional issues.
- I was abandoned by the only group of people that I knew.
- I was kicked out of a sorority (for said "emotional issues").
- I was running out of scholarship money.
- I sucked at all my computer programming courses.
So, I was basically a sad sack of sh*t.
I decided to come home, give it one more good "college try" by working at a university.
That university... gave free tuition to anyone working as a full-time staff member.
Great, right?
Wrong. I could only take some classes "during" my work shift.
The bosses said "No"... and HR freaked the f*ck out, thinking that I didn't care about my job anymore.
Oh yeah, and I came out sometime shortly after working.
So, I was basically shunned, isolated, and run a muck with a ton of "don't touch anyone" referendums.
I quit that job, with no further job perspective in sight. And after only taking 2 classes.
I ended up going to work at a company that gave tuition kick-backs, but only took a training class to certify me as a PC technician... not quite enough for the degree-hungry holders of high-paying jobs.
I quit that job, too, due to homophobic issues.
So, to make this longer story shortened, I ended up working at another place that gave free tuition (and accepted me as being out, from the giddy).
Figured it couldn't hurt to try again.
Let's see how this one goes.
Oh, and I have an issue with not completing things... in case that wasn't abundantly clear :-)
